Bowden to meet with players ahead of announcement

With all reports pointing to Bobby Bowden retiring this afternoon after 34 years in Tallahassee, the Florida State head coach will meet with his players this afternoon before officially announcing what his Seminole future holds.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the meeting with the players is expected to take place at 2:15 ET this afternoon.  It’s expected that Bowden will inform his players that he will retire following the Seminoles’ bowl game, and will then make his decision public.

It’s believed that Bowden will make the decision on his future known through a press release rather than holding a press conference at this time.

Bowden met with school officials at his home again this morning.  It was the second such meeting in the last two days.

Both the Democrat and ESPN have been reporting that Bowden has decided to retire, although both Bowden and his wife told the Associated Press last night that no decision had been made.
