FSU Prez confirms Bowden retirement

It’s nearly officially official.

The Bobby Bowden Era at Florida State will end at the end of the 2009 season.

Speaking to the Tallahassee Democrat, FSU President T.K. Wetherell said that Bowden will indeed announce his retirement at some point today, ending a legendary 34-year coaching career in Tallahassee.

Wetherell also confirmed that Bowden would coach in the Seminoles’ bowl game, which the president hopes would be the Gator Bowl against West Virginia.

Bowden was the head coach of the Mountaineers before moving on to the Seminoles in the mid-70’s.

An official announcement from Bowden is expected to come after his 2:15 ET meeting with his players this afternoon.
