Gators facing off-field issue ahead of SEC title game

This is not what Florida needed in the days leading up to their SEC title game showdown with Alabama.

According to the Gainesville Sun, likely All-American defensive end Carlos Dunlap has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence.  Dunlap was arrested at 3:25 a.m. today by Gainesville police.

According to police, Rogers was dispatched to the area to check out reports of a reckless driver in a Chrysler. Rogers said that when he found the car matching the description, he also found Dunlap alone in the car and asleep at the wheel. After waking Dunlap, Rogers said he refused to submit to a breath test and was booked into the Alachua County jail on the DUI charge.

The school has yet to comment on the situation, nor has any type of school-related punishment been meted out, at least publicly.

Needless to say, though, a suspension is very likely looming, which would obviously be a blow to the stingy Gator defense and add yet another twist to a championship storyline already teeming with them.

That Gators D will now be very vulnerable in the first quarter. I hope ‘Bama can strike quickly.

No they won’t. This is Urban Meyer and the University of Florida. There won’t be any suspension.

Meyer won’t suspend him until he ‘has all the facts.’
‘All the facts’ will come in right after the BCS Championship game.

Urban Meyer will NOT stand for this. Expect Dunlap to be made to sit out every offensive snap on Saturday, and quite likely the coin toss, too.

Dunlap is gone for at least the SEC title game, if not the bowl game. Meyer will suspend him after practice today…within 24 hours of the arrest.
This will hurt UF as Dunlap is a beast…albeit a very stupid and selfish beast.

Haha..i have to agree with all the comments above…C’mon John, do you really think Urban will suspend a star player before the biggest game of the year. Now if this happened a few weeks ago before they faced FIU then maybe he would have been suspended.

Actually, Urban will suspend him, if his wife tells him to.

This is the last thing Meyer needs while he’s interviewing for the ND job. Too many distractions at once.

This guy will play Saturday, this isFlorida we are talking about, not a reputable school.

Hmmm, where are the gator lovers now? Seems they couldn’t gloat enough couple weeks back, about how Lane was ‘waiting for all the information to come out’….even while he was waiting the players in question were not allowed to participate in team activities. Well now Urban is waiting as well, we’ll see if he waits until after the ‘Bama game or not. I guess we’ll see if he’s as above reproach as you guys think he is.

LaneRocks: It took Kiffin, a man known for his inability to keep his mouth shut, a full day and a half to even acknowledge his players were arrested. Meyer is expected to address the issue today after practice.

I don’t know if this link will work, but it is the latest…
Dunlap is was still in jail as of an hour ago.

We will see what Meyer says. My guess is suspension for 1 game.
