Prediction time: Gators-Tide

I’ve vacillated back and forth all morning on whether or not to do one of these posts, but, based on the emails I’ve received, it’s something that people want.

So, against my better judgment, and armed with the full knowledge that I’ll have to do deal with pissed-off Swamp People in the comments section from here to eternity, here goes my prediction for this afternoon’s SEC Championship game:

Alabama 23, Florida 20.

(Ducks the first Gainesville debris scud…)

So, why ‘Bama?  Honestly, I don’t really know.  They’re due?  Bottom line, though, is that it’s a gut feeling, and a gut feeling based in large part on the least-respected member of a football team.

Both defenses are utterly dominant, so this could very well come down to the kicking game in general, and a field goal late in the game in particular.  The Tide has Leigh Tiffin, the Gators come back with Caleb Sturgis.  Major, major advantage to ‘Bama, and a situation that swings my prediction in favor of Nick Saban‘s squad.

Of course, there’s the Tim Tebow x-factor, but I’ll go back again to the dominant defenses and both offenses struggling to do much of anything with any type of consistency.

That being said, it would not surprise me in the least if the score were reversed and the Gators came out on top.  In fact, the only thing that would surprise me in this game is if the margin of victory was by more than ten points either way.

Either way, I’m expecting one helluva football game, and wish the best of luck to two tremendous football programs.

And, Gator Fan, feel free to flame away…

Roll damn tide. I hope Saban leaves Tebow and Meyer crying on the flood of the Georgia Dome.

I agree that it will be close and special teams will likely decide. That being said, the Gators have the best and most successful crunch time QB in the game. The Gator D always seems to show up and dominate in big games. I think that they will completely shut down Bama.
I think that Gators will will by 7, 20-13 with one of Bama’s TDs coming via a return.

And a quick 10-0 Tide lead. It’s BS that UF had to actually play a good team this year and potentially stand in the way of Tebow’s destiny.

‘Bama. Just to be able to watch Tebow and Meyer crying on the sidelines.

I think everyone already knows where I stand on this. I’ve been saying all season: Florida coasts through a cupcake schedule all year, then gets their proverbial can of whoop-ass from Alabama in the SEC title game. So far, looks like I’m on the money.

Gators are lucky to be down by 6 at the half.
They are getting out played and making mistakes (penalties, two key drops that likely would be been TDs)…not a winning combination versus a great team.
    McElroy looks awesome.

Wow, Bama looking good and it looks like Tebow will FINALLY be tested and possibly be forced to throw the ball… interesting to see the former Heismann winner to have to beat a team with his arm.

You know, I’m not sure what’s happening and I’m sure that UF would put up a better performance if they played this again. But Alabama is the better team today, period, and I’m not sure even a Tebow 4th quarter could rescue this. Congrats, ‘bama, and good luck in Pasedena.

I wonder how much God paid for the Tebow advertising under his eyes! It didnt help.

Ah, John, you should’ve quit while you were ahead…
@SmackMyVickUp – Dude, how did you know Tebow would actually cry? LOL, best prediction of the week.

Tebow finally gets what he deserves….sitting and crying………

See gator_prof, this is why I don’t count games until after my team actually wins them–don’t like having to eat my words. But appreciate your comments.
What a beautiful game for a girl who loves great running and great defense!!!! But my favorite moment was Saban having them take the knee–class act.
Happy anniversary to my brother & sis-in-law! They celebrated their wedding night in a little B&B watching Bama win their last SEC title on TV and they celebrated tonight in the Dome! :-)
    Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!

Great players play great in big games. Tebow didn’t. Game wasn’t even as close as the score.
Florida’s lack of play against quality competition came back and bit them in the ass. They were outplayed and outcoached.

Alabama played good, solid football in every aspect of the game, and they beat a great team today. I couldn’t be happier, and I’m more than confident about Bama’s chances against whoever they play in the national championship game.
    Roll Tide.
ps. we actually saw a SMILE from Nick Saban tonight. How about that?
