As Clemson was preparing for a shot at their first ACC title since 1991, coordinator Kevin Steele was looking for a way to fire-up his defensive players in the locker room shortly before the game.
Part of his plan apparently involved going Tyson on a wall. We’re assuming that breaking his hand with said punch wasn’t part of the plan.
But, that’s exactly what happened as Steele took to the sidelines and coached with his broken hand wrapped in a cast. Steele’s motivational tactics failed miserably, however, as his defense allowed 469 yards of total offense — including 333 yards on the ground — in the Tigers’ 39-34 loss to Georgia Tech.
While a good portion of the blame for the loss could be placed squarely on the defense’s shoulders, none of it deserved to be anywhere near C.J. Spiller.
The senior running back rushed for a career-high 233 yards and scored four touchdowns in the loss. That dominating offensive display likely earned the immensely talented back some additional Heisman votes, although it would come as a mild surprise — even as he likely deserves it — if he garnered enough support to make the trip to New York City.
