Report: London offered UVA gig

Earlier today, reports surfaced that Virgina had requested permission to speak to Richmond head coach Mike London about their coaching vacancy.

This evening, reports are beginning to surface that London has been offered the position.

According to ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad, London has been offered the job of replacing Al Groh in Charlottesville and is expected to accept the offer.

The 49-year-old London was an assistant on Groh’s staff for six years earlier this decade, and was immediately tapped as a potential successor following the nine-year coach’s dismissal.

If hired, London would become the second African-American currently serving as a head coach of a BcS school; of the other three BcS-level schools with head-coaching openings, two of the programs reportedly have black coaches at the top of their list — Louisville with Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, Kansas with Buffalo head coach Turner Gill.
