Jim Harbaugh‘s name has been on the periphery of the discussion regarding the next Notre Dame head coach.
Now, according to the New York Times, the Stanford head coach is right smack in the middle of the situation.
Citing a person briefed on the search, the Times is reporting that both Harbaugh and — as previously reported — Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly have met or are scheduled to meet with Irish athletic director Jack Swarbrick.
When reached by the Times on his cell phone, Harbaugh would neither confirm nor deny any interest in the Irish.
“Not now or not in the future will I talk about any other jobs or opportunities,” the Cardinal coach said. “I’m out recruiting right now.”
The Times also reports that the vacancy in South Bend will most likely be filled at some point this week.
According to this morning’s New York Post, a recommendation for a new head coach could be made by Swarbrick to university President John Jenkins as early as this Wednesday.
Well – Harbaugh beat ND this year so…..
note to stanford: PAY THIS MAN!!!
The Paper of Record has now edited this story to acknowledge that Harbaugh is not a candidate. This thing is/was all BS. It has been denied by JH’s agent and the Stanford AD. The NYT’s should be ashamed of itself. Look at all the anguish it has caused to ElKabong and TWebb over at NDNation! While it is true that Jh can be a little frosty with refs, he doesn’t EVER treat his players the way Kelly did last Saturday. Should be fun.
