Jayhawks feeling like a Nutt?

Well, this certainly qualifies as a strange development.

According to both an Arkansas radio station and the Kansas City Star, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt is on Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins' wish list as a replacement for Mark Mangino.

But, that's not all.  Nutt is reportedly reciprocating the Jayhawks' interest.  And Perkins and the coach have already discussed the opening.

As Florio is wont to say, wow.

Nutt has been at Ole Miss for two seasons after spending ten at Arkansas.

The 52-year-old coach was a quarterback at Oklahoma State from 1979 through 1981.  He was also a Cowboys assistant on two occasions in the 1980's.

It would be a shame for the SEC to lose one of their great head coaches. But it happens.

Oh well. Maybe Houston Nutt can help make the Big XII even stronger -- I view it as the second best conference in the NCAA as it is. Go Jayhawks.

@ xacvol: I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Thanks.

What is it with Houston Nutt? Seems like he no sooner gets a job than he starts looking for a new one. He royally upset Arkansas fans during his tenure there when he practically begged for the Nebraska job after Frank Solich was fired, which in turn started the slow burn of the rest of his time there. If he is indeed courting Kansas (is he really that desperate to get a Big 12 job?) then he may as well start move out of Oxford now, because if he doesn't do it voluntarily, it may be done for him involuntarily.

He is an exciting coach. But you gotta remember in the end he is just a NUT. This move, if it comes about, will clear prove it. But Good Luck Houston
