'Noles still looking at 'Bama for new coordinator

Over the weekend there was a report linking Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart to, among other openings, the coordinator position at Florida State.

Today comes word that a Tide assistant is indeed in the running for the FSU vacancy, but it’s not the one in the initial report.

According to the Mobile Press-Registersee Gentry, got it right this time! — new FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher has zeroed in on Tide linebackers coach Sal Sunseri as the likely replacement for retiring coordinator Mickey Andrews.

Multiple sources told the Press-Register that Sunseri is expected to interview for the position, and a deal could be reached and announced as early as this week.

Sunseri is in his first year on Nick Saban‘s coaching staff after spending the previous seven seasons with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.

Sal was Bama’s answer to losing Lance Thompson. I am not sure how great of an X’s and O’s guy Sal is but I know he can recruit. I saw him in my own home lock up a recruit from the state of Florida when he was at Louisville. Nick won’t let Sal ride out into the sunset without a bigger counter offer. I think he is the asst. head coach as well at Bama. If Sal goes it will be a bigger boost to FSU recruiting than it will be a blow to Bama recruiting.
