Earlier this evening, the New York Times reported that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh either has or would interview for the Notre Dame vacancy.
According to both the Cardinal athletic director and Harbaugh’s agent, however, that’s simply not the case:
While Kelly confirmed his interview, another name can be crossed off Notre Dame’s list. Stanford’s athletic director, Bob Bowlsby, strongly denied a report in The New York Times’s Web site that Coach Jim Harbaugh would be interviewing as well.Bowlsby said that he was “100 percent confident” that Harbaugh was not a candidate because he knows the situation from “both sides.” He added that Swarbrick, a close friend, had called Bowlsby three times for advice. Bowlsby also said that he had spoken with Harbaugh’s agent, Jack Bechta, late Monday afternoon to confirm that nothing was going on. Bechta did not return a telephone call on Monday.
When asked if there was any chance that Harbaugh would be the next coach at Notre Dame, Bowlsby said, “Absolutely no chance.”
We had noted in the past that Harbaugh was on the periphery of the discussion when it came to the Notre Dame job. Based on this latest development, it looks as if he can be stricken from any further discussion about Charlie Weis’s replacement.
Of course, this all adds up to, yet again, Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly being the front runner for the job.
Earlier this afternoon, Kelly confirmed via Twitter that he would “listen to what [the Irish] have to say.” He’s the first coach to publicly confirm his interest in Notre dame and to get a sit-down with AD Jack Swarbrick.
kelly may listen, but why would he or his young
family have any reason at all to trust swarbrick or jenkins or anyone in notre dame’s administration?
if anyone thinks that kelly’s wife has not spoken with charlie’s wife and that kelly’s children have not spoken with charlie’s son, dream on and run your fraudulent rumour mills.
swarbrick and jenkins have become very desperate men for very good reasons and they fully deserve the infamy with which they will be remembered forever.
they have murdered notre dame football and the university of notre dame, along with you media shill con artists.
I think it’s a shame that Kelly, with his team undefeated and in a tough BCS bowl game, has allowed it to go public that he’s interested in the ND job and that he didn’t know if he’d be coaching the bowl game. How does he think the kids on his team feel, knowing their coach is thinking about leaving them high and dry? I hope he gets the job and hope that the “mighty Irish” continue to suck as they have the past several years.
Looks like NOBODY wants ” the premier job in college sports”thus the Cincy. Coach gets it by default!
reading the blog posting from notre dame haters has become very comical. everyone hates them, but yet you keep reading every article and find the need to post. i almost want to skip the articles and just read your jealousy laced posts. keep up the good work!!
Notre Dame’s coaching job is more stress than its worth. I’m sure their track record is deterring many candidates from bothering to show interest.
Scott, I am not a “hater”. I click on the Notre Dame links just to read the posts because some of them are hysterical. robertg’s are especially hilarious.
As a Bama fan, I know what it’s like to have your beloved program fall upon hard times. There comes a time when you have to suck it up and realize that your program sucks and a 6 or 7 win season is the best you’re going to get.
Notre Dame fans can’t accept that right now but they need to in order to let a coach come in and slowly try to turn the program around. ND fans just won’t let any coach do that. It’s a shame.
