Apparently, there’s still a chance that Brian Kelly will meet today with Notre Dame officials.
Earlier today, a posting on Kelly’s Twitter account, purportedly from the Cincinnati head coach, stated that there would be "[n]o interview today” with the Irish.
According to the Twitter account of Tom Gelehrter, UC’s manager of new media and broadcasting, however, Kelly’s account has been hacked, and the hack apparently took place at some point after Kelly tweeted yesterday that he would listen to what the Irish have to say.
“Confirmed, the pictures and posts were not posted by @CoachBrianKelly . His account was hacked,” Gelehrter tweeted.
(We’re assuming his account wasn’t hacked as well.)
This leaves us with the possibility that Kelly may indeed interview today. Or he might not -- according to ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad via, you guessed it, Twitter: “Decision made for no formal interview between Swarbrick-BKelly today. BKelly has already had direct communication w reps for ND.”
What I do know, however, is that this episode makes me despise all that is Twitter even more, which I really didn’t believe was physically possible.
UPDATE 2:27 p.m. ET: According to Schad’s online story found right HERE, “things are heating up” between the Irish and Kelly, and the process that would make Kelly the new Irish coach could be completed in a couple of days. Talks between athletic director Jack Swarbrick and the soon-to-be-former UC head coach are expected to continue, but no formal interview will take place.
