Kiffin goes Sgt. Schultz on hostess brouhaha

For the first time since the New York Times broke the story of Tennessee being the subject of an NCAA investigation, head coach Lane Kiffin has addressed the issue.

And — surprise! — he knows nothing.  He knows not of hostesses having “illegal contact” with potential recruits.  He knows not of these hostesses traveling out of state to allegedly “woo” potential recruits.

In short, he was John Banner minus the mustache and candy cravings.

“In this situation here, I don’t know of any wrongdoing,” Kiffin said Thursday. “We take following the rules very seriously.

“Let me say this, myself and our staff take the rules and the bylaws of the NCAA and SEC extremely serious. We work extremely hard to follow those. In this situation right here, I don’t see, and I don’t know of any wrongdoing of any members of our staff in this or of the kids that are being questioned in this.”

So I take it that Kiffin doesn’t know anything? Well, I’m going to have to agree w/ him on that one!

Obviously, he’ll backhand his hoes — or not — however he feels.

I’m still a little mystified on how Kiffen has managed to evade Tennessee’s anti-nepotism laws and hire his father as an employee. Doesn’t this strike anyone as a possible violation of NCAA rules as well as Tennessee law?

Hmmm, let’s see. Official HO-stesses traveling out of state to recruits all on their own? The head football coach and his staff don’t know anything about this. The next logical question is how do the girls know which kids to visit?
Big Pimp’in Kiffy may be setting himself up for lack of institutional control.
All that needs to come out now is one sordid behavior story and boom. People should be combing through facebook, twitter, etc. for stories and photos.
I wonder if Big Pimp’in Kiffy still thinks that all press is good press?
Where is Willie Williams when you need him? He would squawk bigtime.

It was the “hosts” (not hostesses) that got Kiffin to go to Tennessee in the first place

    gator_prof,
The athletes in this particular case had already visited Tennessee and met the hostesses on campus, that is how the girls knew who to visit.
The only real question to be answered is whether or not the university paid for this trip or the girls went on their own. If school funds were used, Tenn is in big trouble. The next question is whether or not the school knew that this was going on. If they knew, then they will be in some hot water over this.

    bobcat,
Monte Kiffin is a contract employee. He is not employeed under the same system or rules as the majority of university employees. I do not know Tennessee law at all, so I will not speculate any further than the fact that his services are contracted and not subject to same rules as other state employees. As far as NCAA violations, I can confirm that his hiring is not a violation of any NCCA by laws.

He and his staff take the rules “extremely serious”. Way to foster those scholar athletes, Lane.

    Hail2ThaRedskins,
Agreed…If the HO-stesses where not traveling on their own dime, this will bad for UT.

Institutional control says control all who work for the football program. It is as simple as tell them the rules. There is one big assumption as it assumes Lane knows the rules.
I did love him as the guest picker for the SEC Championship Game Day show. Always fun to have a villain.
