With back-to-back 5,000-yard seasons in his back pocket — and a realistic shot at breaking the 6K barrier pending his performance in the bowl game — Case Keenum is one of the best quarterbacks in the country that nobody seems to talk about. Including us.
With a year of eligibility remaining, it’s been widely expected that the QB would return to Houston for his senior season.
According to Keenum, however, that’s not a foregone conclusion.
The junior will be submitting his paperwork to the NFL Draft Advisory Board very shortly, and where he’s projected will likely determine what his next step in football will be.
“I’ve always assumed I’m coming back,” Keenum said according to the Houston Chronicle. “But there’s a lot of stuff out there. I’m going to make that decision after the bowl game and see what happens after that. There’s still information out there to be heard. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
Needless to say, Kevin Sumlin would like for Keenum to return, but the Cougars head coach is trying to provide all the information need for his QB to make an informed decision that’s in his best interest.
“It’s my job to provide him with as much information as I can provide to make an educated decision,” Sumlin said. “As I told him, fortunately I’ve been through this a few times (as an assistant at Oklahoma). We’re going to give him all the information that he needs. I think it’s important to do what’s in the best interests of him.”
Hey John, how about a page devoted to notable players leaving, returning and/or questionable? Maybe a similar page related to coaches?
Of course Sumlin is against Keenum leaving, unless of course Sumlin gets his true wish which would be to take over in Cincinatti or Kansas and then he doesn’t care what happens to Keenum.
It surprises me at times how the NCAA permits these coaches to break their contracts to go to other NCAA schools but if their schools want to fire them then they have to buy out the contracts.
Wouldn’t a coach rather build a program up from the bottom and be known as the one that put that program on the map rather than another failed cog and a minor footnote in a historic program’s lengthy history?

Colossus: You don’t even have to leave Houston. Klingler and Ware are the poster children for this phenomenon.
@hrudey: LOL your right…
It makes you wonder what real NFL QB’s would have accomplished in the same system.
