Reports state Harbaugh offered, will accept Kansas job

At least two media outlets in Kansas City are reporting, by way of SportsByBrooks.com, this evening that not has Kansas not only offered their coaching job to Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh, but that Harbaugh will accept the offer as early as tomorrow.

Shortly after those reports made their way to the airwaves, KU athletic director Lew Perkins issued a denial stating that the job had not been offered to anyone.

“As we have said in the past, we will not comment on rumors about any potential candidates for the position of head football coach at the University of Kansas,” Perkins said in a statement. “Having said that, I will reiterate at this time that the process is ongoing. We have not offered the head coaching position to anyone.”

A source with knowledge of the search process confirmed to CFT earlier this evening that Harbaugh is indeed Perkins’ top target, but stated that they thought he would likely turn down the job if offered.

The Kansas City-area reports say that Harbaugh has been offered a contract worth $2.7 million annually; we were told earlier today that the number was in the neighborhood of $2.75 million.

Either of those numbers would represent a huge raise for the Cardinal coach; it’s believed that Harbaugh has an offer of $1.5 million a year sitting on his desk awaiting a signature.

Oh, so that’s why he took the job. $$$
Also, why are AD’s afraid to let on who they want for a job? Anyone?

Cause if the dont get them, it wont effect the attractiveness of the job.

Lew Perkins is by far one of the best AD’s in the country. KU will be / is in very good shape with him at the helm.

What is Jim Harbaugh doing? I’m guessing he could have had the ND if he wanted it. Secondly, anybody with a lick of sense knows that RichRod will be fired next year. Harbaugh could have returned there. Why take this job?? Kansas?!?

He’ll have better access to recruits at Kansas than he has at Stanford. Stanford doesn’t bend the rules like Charlie Weis was able to do at ND. Now he can recruit players whose grades are far below what Stanford expects and now he can really build a team. Combine that with $1.25 million more a year it’s great money. Not only is it $1.25 million but the cost of living is dramatically different. He’ll spend a $700k on a sweet house in Lawrence, Kansas that would cost him $3 million in the Bay area. His commute times and cost of education for his kids will be less than what he’s paying in the Bay area.
He seems more intent to become an NFL coach than a college coach and is going to use Kansas as a major stepping stone for his career.

Pete Carroll sent the limo to take him to SFO for the flight to Kansas.

Stupid move by Harbaugh. He was building a fantastic team at Stanford (which is unexpected and shows what a great coach he can be) and now he is going to Kansas to start over while seeing the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
If he stayed at Stanford he would have had the nation’s best Freshman QB (along with serious weapons like Osu, Whalen, etc) on one of the nation’s youngest teams. Then when Rich Rodriguez gets fired from his alma mater he could return there… or go to the NFL… either way, continued success as well as a little loyalty make him a far more attractive commodity than him jumping at every opportunity that is slightly better than the one he is at.

um, charlie weis was NOT able to bend the “rules” at notre dame, hence, the inferior talent.
before you say that he always had very highly rated recruiting classes, understand two things – one, the high school-to-college recruiting process is extremely flawed, and two, most of those recruiting ‘services’ are run by notre dame fans and boosters, so ND’s classes naturally have inflated rankings.

Which recruiting services are run by Notre Dame fans and boosters?
