Golden hasn’t spoken to Cincy about opening

Temple’s Al Golden was one of the first names to pop onto the radar when Brian Kelly officially accepted the Notre Dame job earlier this week.

Three days into the Bearcats’ search for a replacement, though, Golden told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he had not yet been contacted by officials from the school.

“If it gets to that, we’ll deal with it,” he said. “But it’s not an issue and not something I’m dealing with at all. I’m not engaged in any talks right now.”

Of course, just because Golden says he hasn’t spoken directly to Cincinnati officials, that doesn’t mean his agent or representative hasn’t started the process. It seems highly probable, even likely, that Golden will at least get an interview for the opening as there are no “big names” being attached to the opening thus far.

Golden, who was named the MAC coach of the year after leading the 9-3 Owls to their best record in thirty years, also admitted to the Inquirer that he had interviewed for the Irish job that ultimately went to Kelly.
