Dawgs sniffing around Hokies’ DC

For 23 years -- including 14 as the sole defensive coordinator -- Bud Foster has been an integral part of the Virginia Tech football program.

According to the Newport News Daily Press, Georgia may be looking to give the talented coordinator a change of scenery.

The Daily Press reports that UGA officials have contacted Foster about their coordinator vacancy. Head coach Mark Richt canned Willie Martinez on Dec. 2, and Foster’s name was one of the first names to be spit out by the rumor mill as a potential replacement.

As noted by the paper, Foster is already one of the highest paid coordinators in the game -- his $402,000 salary places him seventh for assistants with his title -- so UGA would likely have to offer a sizable financial package in order to pry the coach from Blacksburg.

Of course, Foster’s name could have been floated out there by one of his “representatives” in order to get a bump from his current employer. When Steve Spurrier was pursuing Foster to be his coordinator at South Carolina, Foster received a $73,000 raise from Tech to stay.
