Cowboys QB 'doing fine', 'getting better'

Earlier today we noted that there was some concern about the health of Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson ahead of the Cowboys' bowl game after the first of the year.

The stellar QB has been dealing with a shoulder injury since the middle of November, and an ankle issue since the end of the same month.  Those two injury concerns have combined to call into question somewhat the senior's availability for the whole of the Cotton Bowl against Ole Miss on Jan. 2.

At least for now, all of the parties involved are singing from a decidedly optimistic hymnal.

"He's doing fine now, he's been practicing every day," OSU coach Mike Gundy said Tuesday. "Four or five days from now, I think he'll be full speed."

"I'm getting better," Robinson said. "It's obviously frustrating not being healthy. We still have a lot of time and I get better every day."

Hope Zac is getting better...However it will be a disappointing ending to an already disappointing season if the Cowboys lose the bowl game because they stick with an injuried Zac Robinson just to give Zac a "victory lap" before he tries to make a NFL roster, verses going with Weeden and seeing what the future might hold for the team if Weeden is the starting QB next year.

Gundy didn't have ANY problem with burying Bobby Ried on the depth chart (NEVER to return) to see what Zac could do going forward for the program...Why not do that now IF Zac isn't 100%?

Gundy already blew a BCS bid (losing to OU with a hobbled Zac) and now he might possibly lose a bowl game in Texas (prime recruiting ground for OSU) also if he puts out a Zac Robinson that is less than 100%...Ole Miss needs this win every bit as much as OSU does (maybe more so with Snead leaving) so the Cowboys better pull out all the stops to win this one.

I agree RaiderRed. This season definitely did not go the way we intended it to. We played a great game against Georgia week 1, but had quite a few injuries that game. I don't think the team recovered from those injuries and didn't look like the team that it was last year. Zac has not played at the same level as he did last year and I think those nagging injuries are why.

I'm very excited to see what Weeden can do, but I think Gundy believes that Zac gives us the best chance to win even if he's not 100%. Wether that is true or not, no one can know. But interesting thought. And depending on how Zac plays in the game, don't think Gundy WON'T put Weeden in if Zac struggles.

That loss to OU was a dagger (my sister and brother-in-law are HUGE OU fans, so I won't hear the end of this). We had the Fiesta Bowl sitting in our hands and blew it.... bad!

I don't know about the position that Ole Miss is in, but this is a rematch of the Cotton Bowl from 2004. Ole Miss led by Eli Manning and OSU led by Josh Fields. Ole Miss by 3. It was a great game and I was glad I got to be there since it is now being held in Cowboys Stadium (aka. the house that Jerry built, Jerry-World, etc) instead of at the Cotton Bowl stadium. That's kind of a dissappointment, honestly.

Hopefully both teams will get healthy and pumped for the game, but my Cowboys will take it in the end! Go Pokes!!!

Roger OSUOrange&Black...I just see SO much potential in this program. ESPECIALLY if Mizzu leaves the Big 12 for the Big Ten.

In THAT case there is a good chance OSU might move to the Big 12 North (if the Conference adds a school from Texas like TCU or if Arkansas would leave the SEC).

Imagine OSU competing against CU, KU, KSU, Iowa State, and Nebraska instead of UT, OU, and Tech for a chance to the Conference Championship Game!

At any rate, the foundation (money, facilities, recruiting potential in TX) is all there, just need the HC and players to execute...For the first time I can remember they had the talent to compete in EVERY game, just poor execution and bad luck held them back.

However the OU game left a BAD taste in my mouth...Just HAVE to play better in a rivalry game like that (especially with OU getting SHALACKED by Tech AFTER we beat Tech earlier).

Just hope OSU doesn't regress next year like Kansas and Tech recently.
