And, to the shock of almost nobody, it's expected that the Illinois wide receiver will announce his intentions to forego his senior season with the Illini and make himself available for the 2010 NFL draft.
ESPN.com's Joe Schad reports that it's a done deal, that Benn will indeed announce at the presser he will leave a year of eligibility on the table.
Benn was one of the most talked-about receivers in the nation entering the 2009 season, but was a victim of the stunning and utter regression of Illini quarterback Juice Williams.
After catching 67 passes for 1,055 yards as a sophomore in 2008, Benn's production plummeted his junior season -- 38 receptions, 490 yards.
I'll be curious to see where he goes. Heading into the start of the college season, most commentators were pegging this guy as likely the #1 WR to be taken in the draft this year. But after the complete meltdown the Illini had this year, I really wonder how badly it is going to hurt his draft stock.
