Last night, ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad reported that Butch Jones will become the next head coach at Cincinnati.
While it appears that will indeed be the case, it’s not a done deal as of this morning.
Central Michigan released a statement this morning on the status of their current head coach, and admitted that Jones is in talks with UC officials.
“Central Michigan University can confirm that Butch Jones is in contract negotiations with Cincinnati,” the school said in the statement. “All further inquiries should be directed to Cincinnati at this time.”
According to the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun, negotiations between the two sides commenced in earnest last night. A deal could officially be announced as early as Wednesday afternoon.
