Gator recruits shown flashing a 'gun', 'gang signs'

Yet again, content on a social media website is rearing its ugly head and causing quite the uproar in the world of the Internets.

And this time around, the controversy involves a pair of Florida Gator recruits.

By way of Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, pictures of lineman Leon Orr and defensive end Lynden Trail flashing what’s purported to be gang signs and — in one case — showing what looks to ge a handgun have made their way from the players’ respective MySpace/Facebook pages and into the mainstream media.

Below are the pics that were grabbed from the players’ public accounts:

Leon Orr.jpg

Lynden Trail.jpg

The first picture is allegedly of Orr, flashing what appears to be a gun and 16 whole dollars in cash.  Based on the fact that he’s fanning out less than $20, I’m guessing the piece he’s holding shoots water.  Or those little plastic pellets.

The second picture is purportedly Orr on the left and Trail on the right flashing what is alleged to be gang signs.

Given the Gators’ off-the-field record of players stepping a toe or two across the wrong side of the law the last few years, these images are not exactly what the program needs at this point in time.

Book ‘em Dano. Might as well fingerprint ‘em before you let them sign any papers….if they can write. They don’t seem to be college material.

Social media willeeb the downfall of many careers both in sports and in politics. Can you imagine the Facebook scrubbing that will be going on in 30 years during a presedential campaign?

  3. DizAnt says: Dec 17, 2009 10:56 AM

If they were white would we view these pictures any differently?
My guess is that it would not be a story (or we would just point out how ridiculous they look).

    Typical SEC

    Wow…stay classy Florida

  6. trouble33 says: Dec 17, 2009 11:04 AM

Oh yea; this is the kind of trash we need to spend lots of public money on: let em go out and earn the right to attend college so far I don’t see anything worth paying for at any level.

“I’m guessing the piece he’s holding shoots water. Or those little plastic pellets.”
If it’s a airgun that shoots those pellets, then the tip of the gun would have to be a blaze orange color. Seeing that the tip of the gun is hidden by the cash, it could be one of those guns.
Hell, who am I kidding… its a 9mm. Another fine recruit by Florida. Maybe Urban should just pull the trigger (pun intended) on a preemptive suspension now and get it over with.

  8. bearcat14 says: Dec 17, 2009 11:16 AM

my suggestion, as an old coach, to urban is, “save yourself the headaches & heartaches … get rid of them now.”
florida can have almost anybody it wants. why get guys in that are almost sure to be a problem. … … somebody in college athletics has to step up to the plate and start to make moves to clean up the act.
even the NFL is establishing “conduct control.”

Haha..that’s right, it’s not these kids’ fault. They don’t need to take individual responsibility. The white media made them pose for these photos, the white media made them flash gang signs, etc. These poor kids!

The point of college is to educate yourself so you can improve your chances in life, better carrier opportunities, earn more money ect. In the picture that kid is flashing sixteen dollars ($16.00)! He’s already livin the dream man, what does he need a college education for, with that kind of cash he can ALMOST go see a movie, RENT Call of Duty 2, SUPERSIZE a combo twice, or better yet BUY facebook for dummies so he can learn to set his privacy settings

Go easy guys. These are future UF engineering students. gator-prof will be handling the teaching. That they can also play football is another reason to consider their enrollment.

Jeez, talk about putting the ‘U’ in UF.
Can’t wait until Teblow starts throwing up gestures for photo ops.

Made me laugh out loud at work. Thanks. People are staring.

    16 dollars??….bwwaahahhahahahaha.
I can hear him and his “gang” now:
“Dude, check out my piece and my paper supply!”
“No way, 16 bills? Want to go to Burger King?”
    “Aiight.”

  16. SwampSide says: Dec 17, 2009 3:49 PM

This has already been addressed by the players. The pictures are from middle school, when they promoting a rap group. The gun is a pellet gun. Plus, it’s not like they were trying to rob someone with a pellet gun, like Tennessee players do.

so, swamp side, the “signs” are meaningless? I could care less about the gun…I have several. If they are in middle school with guns, even pellet guns pretending to be real guns, what’s up with that?
Go ahead and defend them; UM has notched, I think, 25 arrests on his belt already. he will have his waist size in arrests in no time.

  18. grebesteva says: Dec 17, 2009 7:24 PM

OH FYI,, they Both got OFFERS FROM UM, FSU, AND TRAIL FROM USC AND MICHIGAN,, AND ORR FROM BOSTON COLLEGE!!!!!!

  19. Cubano says: Dec 17, 2009 8:24 PM

Oh man, I hope they sign w/ the canes.

  20. brasho says: Dec 17, 2009 9:17 PM

What a couple of winners. Time to yank their scholarship offers off the table.. the players claim they were from middle school… yet they put them on their own webpages?!? Gimme a break, quit enabling the youth of today. These guys probably aren’t thugs, they’re worse, they’re wannabe thugs. The real victims here are the taxpayers that are paying for these worthless idiots’ educations.

DizAnt, if they were white, they’d be the new “ICy hOt STunTaZ!”
    Google it…
Meanwhile, in the swamp… more super classy recruiting by Meyer.

Kiffin can’t wait to steal these guys. Pass out the hoods and weed.

  23. Spiffy Kiffy says: Dec 18, 2009 3:22 PM

You stole my line ochentacinco. Too true, maybe ol’ Spiffy can try to call them and convince them to come to TN. He has a couple of spots to fill.

  24. JStal says: Dec 19, 2009 3:35 AM

Nothing like starting your college career with a 1/18 game suspension…
