“Happy birthday to you… happy birthday to you… happy birthday dear Brent… now get off my team.“
While those weren’t Lane Kiffin‘s exact sing-song words, it was the message sent by the Tennessee head coach to now-former Vols defensive back Brent Vinson today.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Vinson has been booted from the Vols football program for… well… we don’t exactly know.
“We wish him the best of luck,” was all Kiffin would have to say about the dismissal that came on Vinson’s 23rd birthday.
Vinson started ten of 14 games he played in as a freshman in 2007, then had no starts in eight games in 2008 as he battled injuries and inconsistent play throughout the season. This season, he started one game — during which he was torched by the Ohio Bobcats — and played in nine games total.
According to GoVolsXtra.com, it seems as though this young man had some educational issues and was a potential witness to a crime.
It’s interesting that Kiffen dismissed him prior to the bowl. Must have been his dad’s idea.
