Highly-touted recruit leaves 'Huskers

Earlier this year, Nebraska won the recruiting battle for the services of linebacker Chris Williams over, among others, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Missouri.

Now, those Big 12 schools will have yet another shot at the talented defensive player.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Williams has asked for, and been granted, a release from his Nebraska scholarship.

Williams suffered a knee injury toward the end of his senior season in high school, and his rehab has gone slower than expected.  The injury forced Williams to redshirt his first season in Lincoln, although the player seemed to think that he was healthy enough to contribute.

“I don’t know anything about not going back,” Williams’ high school coach, Steve Warren, told the Omaha World-Herald. “I know he’s been very, very frustrated with the rehab part of it. He said to me that he felt, a long time ago, that he was ready to practice, but he wasn’t allowed.”

Williams was not on the Cornhuskers’ 105-man roster heading into summer camp.

If he’s mad the Coaches didn’t let him practice, and that’s why he left, then that’s pretty stupid. He’s willing to risk career ending damage because he feels he can practice? What medical degree is he hiding??

i agree with you grandavenue. theres a pretty big difference between feeling ok to go and being healthy enough to go. they redshirted him so he still has a lot of snaps to play. kids are dumb these days.

He is just mad that Nebraska got a couple good LB recruits this year that will be competing for his job straight away.

Always a good move to leave a defense that just sent a Defensive Tackle to New York as a Heisman finalist. Good call. It’s not like Bo Pelini isn’t well known for turning out NFL talent on his defenses.
Good luck to him, hope he doesn’t regret it.

Colossus you nailed it. He want’s to showcase for NFL scouts asap, and maybe the Corn believes he’s not as good as his HS fame!
He could’ve earned the starting position with a healthy knee on the practice field and on gamedays in Lincoln.
