Nation's top rusher still non-committal on future

In one of the best kept secrets in college football this season, Fresno State’s Ryan Mathews topped even the great Toby Gerhart and Mark Ingram in yards per game this season at just over 151.

With those type of numbers, it’s been widely expected that the running back would leave the Bulldogs a year early and make himself available for the 2010 NFL draft.

However, according to Mathews, he has yet to make a decision on his football future, although the way he says he’s leaning is certain to please the Fresno State fans in the offense.

“It’s hard to tell right now,” he said. “Right now I’m going by ear and doing whatever coach Hill tells me. I’m probably going to come back and play football with these guys, but anything can happen. There’s a world of possibilities out there for me.”

That being said, don’t look for Mathews on a college football field near you next season.

is he a 2nd or 3rd round pick?
if not, my suggestion is that he stay & play.

But why stay? He’s already tops in the nation. How much better can he get?
Besides, you never know what next year will bring. The crop of RBs this year isn’t exactly very deep.
Him staying and having another similar season won’t guarantee him a 1st round nod any more than this season has or has not.

Agree with most of the others in this thread, he might as well go to the NFL since there is really nothing more he could do in college to improve his draft stock. And also as pointed out, there is a particularly weak year for RB’s in the draft.
