Additionally, it puts an end to Fox's collegiate career.
Miami did not specify exactly why Fox had to undergo surgery other than to say that it was for a lower extremity injury. According to the Miami Herald, Fox was seen on the sidelines at practice Saturday with a large brace protecting his left knee.
"We have really appreciated all of Jason's efforts this season as well as throughout his career," head coach Randy Shannon said in a statement. "He's had some nagging injuries this season, and has played through the pain to the point where we as a coaching staff and athletic training staff feel like it would be best for him to not play in the bowl game. Jason has a bright future ahead in football and he needs to be 100 percent going forward."
Fox was named to the All-ACC first team this season after starting 11 games for the Hurricanes. His 47 career starts rank third all-time in school history.
