More Stoops rumors making the rounds

Bob Stoops at least attempted to make it clear from Day One that he had no interest in the Notre Dame job, even as he was the subject of almost daily rumors regarding the Irish.

Now, he may have a different set of rumors to fend off.  From a completely different level of football.

According to both Tulsa World and the Daily Oklahoman, ESPN‘s Chris Mortensen speculated over the weekend that the Dallas Cowboys may have an interest in Stoops if owner Jerry Jones decides to can Wade Phillips.

Mortensen referenced the Stoops-to-Dallas idea both on the air and on his Twitter account.

“As for Cowboys, if Wade goes, sources say he prefers some in 40′s. Maybe a back to the future deal like a Bob Stoops. Not saying Stoops will be Cowboys coach – he has said he’s staying put, as has Urban Meyer. But J. Johnson and B Switzer. 3 Super Bowls,” Mortensen tweeted.

Mortensen was quick to point out that this looks to be one-sided interest at this point in time.

Pick the crazier of the two:
    1) The idea of any owner in this era still thinking a college coach is their answer after Spurrier, Saban, Petrino, etc, and especially with all of the A-list former NFL coaches available
    2) The idea that a team that can’t win the big games brings in BCS game loss-o-matic Bob Stoops to remedy this.

This just in: Favre to coach Cowboys in 2010!

We can all see how successful Barry Switzer was… after he didn’t have Jimmy Johnson’s team to play with.
Jerry is a business Genius… but after he and Jimmy split… has proven to be an absolutely HORRENDOUS judge of Head Coaching skill and aptitude.
Maybe that’s how he’s saving money, pick the weak, first timers, and unemployed.
    PAINFUL Jerry, PAINFUL

This will never happen, just PR from Stoops camp.
Although Al Groh as a replacement defensive coordinator would be nice

Not gonna happen. Look for Mike Zimmer out of Cincinnati to be a front runner. Jerry likes to hire coaches that he has a history with and that he feels comfortable that he can control. Todd Bowles is another option considering he is a Parcells neophyte and the Tuna has a good history in choosing and developing coaches.

Favre is not going to coach Dallas as long as he can coach Minnesota. What a stupid thought.
He kept Favre in last night when he clearly had his lunch being eaten by the Panthers.
