Rainey returning to Gators in 2010

Somewhere in the neighborhood of ten Florida underclassmen who would be eligible for the 2010 NFL draft are said to be weighing their football options beyond this season.

While the Gators may lose most, some or none of those players, there is one who is a definite to return next season.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, running back Chris Rainey is staying in school “for at least another year“, ending the speculation — at least for this season — as to what his football future will hold.

Rainey, a redshirt sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining, averaged nearly 6.5 yards a carry and scored four touchdowns on the ground.  His 548 yards was good for third on the Gators behind Tim Tebow (859) and Jeff Demps (738).

Like most collegiate athletes in the state of Florida, when asked if they are going back to school they respond… “Going back to school? Naw, I’m playing football!” or… “You mean to tell me that they got a school here?”

I wonder why he is coming back? I mean, the NFL is chomping at the bits for a 165 pound RB who gets injured every other week because his body is to frail for top notch football. Rainey thinks this is still high school and he is one of the country’s top prospects. That ship done sailed Chris. You are what you are and that is an average football player with tremendous speed AKA Bo Carroll.
