UNLV coach search: And then there were two

While we don’t know who will be UNLV’s next head coach, we do know there’s a very small pool of candidates on which to speculate.

In fact, there are just two candidates who will be interviewing for a position that’s been vacant for over a month, ever since Mike Sanford was dismissed in November.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Dennis Franchione and Bobby Hauck are the only two candidates under consideration by new athletic director Jim Livengood.

Hauck, the Montana head coach whose school lost in the Div. 1-AA championship game to Villanova Friday, was slated to interview on Sunday, while Franchione is scheduled to interview today.

A hiring could come as early as the middle of the week as the Review-Journal reports that approval of the new coach’s contract is on the agenda for the Board of Regents’ special meeting Wednesday.
