It’s been rumored for a week or so that wide receiver Ray Small and defensive lineman Rob Rose would not be available for Ohio State’s Rose Bowl appearance.
Today, head coach Jim Tressel confirmed the rumors as fact.
According to the coach, the seniors were suspended for violating unspecified team rules, ending both their 2009 seasons and collegiate careers in one fell swoop.
“It is especially disappointing when young people lose the privilege to compete, especially because it is the Rose Bowl and they are seniors,” Tressel said today.
“Nevertheless, the Buckeyes must press on, and the youngsters (Small and Rose) as well.”
The loss of Small, coupled with fellow receiver Duron Carter being academically ineligible for the bowl game, has chipped into the Buckeyes’ depth at the WR position.
Sad indeed! The real tragic part of this is that these young men will never ever get a chance to re-do….the rest of their lives will be lamenting the missed opportunity, no matter how much they press on to go farther! Life is short and it’s true, “you only go through once!”
Bumper sticker seen on Ray Small’s car: “Don’t blame me; I was suspended.”
Tombstone – No – I refuse to only go thru life once!
This Wolverine fan is truly sad as this reflects poorly on the Big Ten.
There’s:
Book Smart & Common Sense Stupid ! ”
Guess which one applies to these young men ?
Tragic waste of a chance to excel in both their young lives.
I agree, it is sad about these two. However, I would rather Tressel show this and future teams that just because they are excellent players they can do whatever they want.
It is better than other teams where kids get DUI’s and drug busts and never miss a game.
Ray Small has been in and out of the OSU doghouse pretty much his entire career in Columbus so this most recent news comes as no surprise. He’s got some talent and I hope he pulls it together some day and gets a chance to show something in the NFL.
Good, I’m tired of watching Ray Small muff punts… seemed like every game he would muff a punt or fumble. He will not make it at the next level, period!
