After consecutive seasons of 3-9 and 5-7 under Rich Rodriguez — including an embarrassing 3-13 mark in Big Ten play — it’s hard for anyone to find much of anything positive to say about the current state of the Michigan football program.
Included in the mix of anyone is former Michigan quarterback and future NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady.
Speaking on his weekly WEEI radio appearance, Brady lamented the sorry state of his alma mater’s football team.
“It’s bad,” Brady said according to the Detroit Free Press. “Every time I talk to a former teammate of mine, guys who go up to the game, they have no explanation. We’ve had two pretty rough years.”
Brady then seemed to put the onus for the poor performance on the current head coach by recalling the greatness of the man he replaced.
“Coach Lloyd Carr was a great coach for that school. It’s ugly now, especially watching Ohio State beat us like they did, listening to all those jerks.”
One thing is certain: Coach Rodriguez had better enjoy a few months away out of the spotlight because once the 2010 season rolls around, his butt will be firmly planted on one of the warmest, if not the warmest — coaching hot seats in the country.
Especially if former players follow Brady’s lead and lament what’s become of the storied football program.
I wonder if Brady remembers that Ohio State beat Michigan the last 2 years of Carr’s stay and 4 out of the last 5 and that losing to Ohio State was what got him canned in the first place. He’s had a couple of decent recruiting years and he’s got some pretty good commits in the 2010 class. Michigan may not have the stomach to wait it out but I think that AT WORST, he turns it around in his 4th season.

Tommy – you and your fellow Wolfie fans had no problem during the John Cooper years at Ohio State giving Buckeye fans 13 years of the same ration of “stupid shit” you’re talking about here. That includes that Detroit billboard – orignally put up by Michigan fans – that has now been taken over by Ohio State fans showing how many days its been since Michigan last beat Ohio State in football.
Looks like the RichRod show has finally “come around” for Brady and Michigan fans – pay back can be such a bitch Tommy! You and the rest of Wolfie nation are only now reaping what you and every other Michigan “jerk” sewed during those 13 down years at Ohio State.
Here is my comment for Mr. Brady…..before you go complaining about someone else’s program, maybe you should get the Patriots pointed in the right direction!!! The program that you are a part of is starting to go down hill too. A couple of years ago, the Patriots were a given on every Sunday to pull out a win. Did the loss to Eli Manning upset you that much? Or have you just been spending too much time with models to focus on the job you are being paid to do?
Last time I checked Brady was bringing water to Greise when he attened Michigan. Effing Shady Brady and Bill Belicheat-cant trust em at all. I hate Ohio st as much as the next turd, but cmon shut ur mouth and go bone another super model. You were one of the biggest if not the biggest tool in college.
Even my Saluki’s could bitch slap Tommy-Boy’s college team. I went to the Illini – MI game and the boy-girls in blue and yellow (or make your own sally-pants color names up here) were small, slow, and pathetically coached.
Any time Notre Dame, Michigan, or USC gets hammered my day gets that much better. I’m sick of hearing about them. Give props to USC for recent success but seeing them get stroked this year was awesome!
Tom Brady won a Big Ten title at UM.
Brady’s B10 title was in ’98…shared with Ohio State, who beat him and the UofM 31 – 16. He was 1 – 1 vs. the Buckeyes. He certainly didn’t dominate during his two years as a starter.

You’re missing your years to get it done. With Pryor and your current talent level, if the best flag you can waive is beating a bad Michigan team and hoisting a couple Big Ten titles, that’s sad and Tressel should be in the hot seat. Win a Bowl Game, just try it.

Ohio State seems to forget what hardship is. I am sure Sweater Vest Phony throws out the cash to prized recruits. Pryor ring a bell? Why did he go to the most overrated school. One guess. He who has the most money usually gets what he wants. The system did not fit him.

Tom’s right, RichRod has thrown that program in the shitter. I hope he’s able to pull it out. They’ve got some good young talent on offense, but the way Rich called the plays last year any 5 year old watching could’ve told you what play they were going to run. Hopefully, he gets some talent on the defense. If he doesn’t turn it around next year I say can him.
