On Tuesday night, it was Brigham Young throwing a 44-20 beating on Oregon State.
Wednesday night, it was Utah’s turn to continue the Mountain West’s dominance over the Pac-10 this bowl season.
Behind the right arm of true freshman Jordan Wynn, the Utes knocked off Cal 37-27 in the — take a deep breath — San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl to reach double digits in wins for the second consecutive season.
Wynn passed for 338 yards and three touchdowns, bouncing back from a first-quarter interception that was returned for a touchdown. The ability to right himself after such a mistake, especially at such a young age, impressed his head coach.
“That’s the way he is. He’s unflappable, has ice-water in his veins,” said coach Kyle Whittingham. “He was a little bit unsettled at first, but he got into rhythm.”
“He’s going to win a lot of football games for us. He’s our guy.”
