USC, Barkley sharp early

SAN FRANCISCO – Despite the disappointment of playing in its first non-Bowl Championship Series postseason game since 2001, USC seem generally interested in taking out their frustrations on Boston College.

Early in the second quarter at the Emerald Bowl, the Trojans lead the Eagles, 14-0.

USC freshman quarterback Matt Barkley has been particularly sharp, completing 12 of his first 13 passes for 154 yards, including two touchdown tosses to fullback Stanley Havili.
