Tech releases statement on Leach termination

Here’s the statement from Texas Tech on the “termination of football coach Mike Leach“, as the subject line of the email read.  We offer it up free of commentary, but y’all can do whatever you want with it in the comments section:

After reviewing all the information available, Texas Tech University has decided that the best course of action for the university and its football program is to terminate its relationship with Head Football Coach Mike Leach for cause.

Texas Tech was prepared to participate in the legal proceeding today on coach Leach’s motion for a temporary restraining order. His attorney, however, chose to not participate when he was informed that the termination of coach Leach was inevitable.

The coach’s termination was precipitated by his treatment of a player after the player was diagnosed with a concussion. The player was put at risk for additional injury. After the university was apprised of the treatment, Coach Leach was contacted by the administration of the university in an attempt to resolve the problem. In a defiant act of insubordination, Coach Leach continually refused to cooperate in a meaningful way to help resolve the complaint. He also refused to obey a suspension order and instead sued Texas Tech University. Further, his contemporaneous statements make it clear that the coach’s actions against the player were meant to demean, humiliate and punish the player rather than to serve the team’s best interest. This action, along with his continuous acts of insubordination, resulted in irreconcilable differences that make it impossible for coach Leach to remain at Texas Tech.

“It is our number one priority to protect the welfare of our students and the reputation of the Texas Tech University. Parents have entrusted us with their children and we take this responsibility very seriously. We very much appreciate the leadership shown by the university’s athletic director, Gerald Myers, and president, Guy Bailey, in dealing with this unfortunate situation. The board supports their decision,” said Larry Anders, chairman and Jerry Turner, vice chairman of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents.

In the near future, Texas Tech will undertake a search for a new coach. In the meantime, the focus of the athletic department is on the preparation for the Valero Alamo Bowl.

So in other words, the University hung him out to dry when he wasnt willing to take a slap in the face from an administration looking to keep everyone quiet instead of rightfully get to the bottom of this punk kid’s allegations…

Sooooooo, suck on that Leach! You ignorant bastard. I mean that in a good way of course.

I have to agree with the commentary by Dan Jackson, Vice President of KCBD in Lubbock. Dan doesn’t appear to have a dog in this fight yet Dan has his thumb on the pulse and a feel for what is actually happening behind the scenes.

ESPN is a network that i greatly dislike, but their actions in all of this is just insane to me. They literally said every rumor and innuendo as if it were fact. Craig James “buddies” and co-workers at work saying anything and everything whether fact or fiction is pathetic. Now to the story, we all know that TT wanted this guy gone, want we didn’t know is the length they would go to do so. On an earlier CFT post there is a link(commentator posted the link) to a local Lubbock news story that shows the “shed” and “electrical closet” adam james was forced to stand in for 3-4 hours, well they both looked like the most comfortable shed and electrical closet I have ever seen. DONT GET ME WRONG I THINK LEACH IS A POMPUS ASS, but this has spoiled cry baby son+psycho little league type coach dad with connects+major sports network with zero integrity+school with a vendetta= major embarrassment for all involved. I really, really do not like Leach but this just does not appear to be his fault. I hope he turns down TT when they offer to pay him off which the for surely will and he buries them to the best of his ability because he deserves it. If you think I am lying check the scouting report on Adam James and let me know how this kid could have possibly received a D1 offer without daddys connects and help

Isn’t this the same school and same AD who hired Bobby Knight? You know the same Bobby Knight who grabbed players by the throat at his previous job. Talk about hypocritical.

I guess the university president knows more about treatment than the doctor they retain. The doctor will probably be the next one fired because he says exactly opposite what the university says. Leach’s actions did not put the player at risk of further injury and actually may have helped his situation.

Most things I hate in sports are in some way related to Mark Schlereth, and this one is no different. I don’t really know what happened in this alleged shed, though I don’t thnk Leech had this kid sit in a shed for 3 hours only for his health.
But what really grinds my gears is when I have to listen to him spew nonsense on sports talk radio about how Leech is basically a dirtbag, simply because he knows Craig James. He’s also the pud the instantly proclaimed Tom Cable not guilty of punching another coach in the face, even though said coach didn’t have a broken jaw before the meeting, but managed one afterward. He did however, fail to disclose that he was Cable’s college football teammate.
Look, I don’t care if you got an opinion, I listen to sports talk radio to hear peoples opinions, but dontpretend like you’ve got all the answers and report things as fact simply because you know these people. It’s unprofessional and nauseating to listen to.

Did they copy this word for word from the Al Davis statement firing Lane Kiffin?!?

Texas Tech had AMPLE reason to fire this slimeball, and they showed their integrity by doing just that.
Kudos to the University and to the folks that made the decision!

    Nice Spin!
“Texas Tech was prepared to participate in the legal proceeding today on coach Leach’s motion for a temporary restraining order. His attorney, however, chose to not participate when he was informed that the termination of coach Leach was inevitable”.
The issues on the injunction were rendered “MOOT” once they chose to fire him, which was their right to do. What the statement didn’t say is that the University would have lost on the issue of “Suspension”which they had no authority, by contract, to do.

I am concerned that this matter had to be played out before an international audience. Mike Leach’s record as a football coach serves as a good indication of the character of the man. I do not believe that a man of this distinction should be destroyed by unsubstantiated allegations. I am relieved that the young football player is not in our country’s armed forces. He will be afforded his opportunity to grow up now and be counted as a man.
