As of late this morning, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt said that his quarterback, Jevan Snead, was leaning toward leaving school early.
This afternoon, that lean has turned into a full-blown leap.
In a release issued through the school, Snead announced that he was making himself available for the 2010 NFL draft.
“After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to forego my final year at Ole Miss and enter the NFL Draft,” Snead said in the statement. “The fans, coaches and my teammates have been unbelievable and I want to thank them for an incredible experience.
“In the end, I had to do what is best for me and my family. Having finished my degree, I look forward to the challenge and hard work that comes with pursuing my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL.”
In leading the Rebels to back-to-back 9-4 seasons, Snead completed just over 55% of his passes and threw 33 interceptions. He also threw 46 touchdowns and 5,394 yards.
Not NFL ready yet. Has the physical tools, but needs more seasoning. This is a big mistake. Makes too many poor decisions.
Anyone have a sense of where he will go? Second-rounder maybe?
Isn’t this the guy that was supposed to stay another year because he was that bad as the year went on?
Will Snead be drafted before McCoy? That will be interesting. I think McCoy will go higher but the scouts may fall in love with the measurables of Snead.
Boy, this one is a bad decision. He has little concept of looking defenses off, hence his INTs. Seems odd, just the other day, Nutt was telling people that Snead would have to improve for next season or face competition for the starting job.
I had commented somewhere that Snead might come out early for fear of losing his job to RSFrosh Walter… but still, this is a bit early. This guy has definite 1st round talent but he looked like a 6th-7th rounder this season.
I think Snead could go anywhere from rounds 4-7, depending off if some team falls in love with his measurables hoping they can work on the other stuff.
jevan definantly needed to stay another year. the problem is that all his upperclassman talent is leaving and he will be there basically with sophs and freshman. remember eli came in with his group and they grew together. also i think jevan is a bit of a head case sometimes in the fact that he cant get over mistakes. but lets not totally write the kid off he has worlds of talent and a super strong arm… but something just isn’t clicking for him to step up and be where he needs to be. and i live in oxford and a huge rebel fan. i hear people say they are glad he is leaving and yada yada but i guess they quickly forget about the ethan flatts and brent schaffers and the other qbs of ole miss but they will regret running him out of town.
