A back injury kept Rob Gronkowski off the field for the entire 2009 season.
How he recovers from the back injury will determine whether the tight end comes back to Arizona for one final season. Or leaves for the NFL.
According to Gronkowski’s father, the medical prognosis on his son’s back will be the determining factor for the TE’s football future. Well, that and where he’s projected to go in the draft, although a healthy Gronkowski is one of the top TEs in the country.
If he’s projected to be healthy enough to fully participate in the NFL combine that begins in late February?
He’s as good as gone.
“If he is a definite that he can be healthy and blow up the combine, the chances of him coming back are slim,” Gordon Gronkowski said.
“We’re waiting to see if he is going to about 90, 95 percent by combine time. Because if he can’t show his stuff, that’s not good. That’s one of the major deciders.”
A press conference has already been scheduled for next Friday to announce Gronkowski’s decision. That day is also the deadline for eligible underclassmen to petition the NFL for early entry into the draft.
