To those who are confused about what the Reggie Bush situation is and could be, here are some facts:
He has been accused of accepting over $300,000 in cash and benefits (including a house for his parents) by New Era (not the cap company, a startup agency who wanted to lure a big client.)
The NCAA does not have subpoena power to make anyone testify, but an arbitration in open court does. Hence the squirming going on at USC. Carroll, Bush, his accusers and benefactors, and other witnesses will have to testify. If they lie, it’s perjury. So, that’s pretty serious.
By the way, $300,000 is more than most professors at USC make in a year.

This writer is not the only one – I follow Brian McIntyre on twitter and he is a Seahawks fan and Pete Carroll hater all in one and has ‘tweeted’ at least 200 negative comments about Carroll in the last 4 days.
Talk about beating a dead horse…we GET IT! You think Carroll’s a bastard! Next story please!

Well, there is the issue of loyalty to the football team, but they’ll be fine – they’ll have a good coach next season I’m sure. But what about the graduate student in Malibu??? Is she getting dumped, or is Pete escaping with her to start that new life he’s been promising her…?????

I’m always up for a good conspiracy theory, so pending sanctions could explain Pete’s sudden interest in bailing on SC.
Discussing the timing of Pete’s leaving begs a bigger question – if the NCAA has something to unload on SC, when would they come out with it? Before signing day, and be accused of torpedoing SC’s recruiting, or wait until after, and be accused of screwing the ones who do sign on?

Sometimes it would be better if (chuckles) and (guffaw) were kept to one’s self. After a weekend of Carroll stories you get the impression that there is nothing Pete could do to please this writer. The acrimony has been so overbearing you begin to wonder does this writer have an ax to grind. Undoubtedly there will be more Carroll stories but wouldn’t it be nice if they contained less bitching about Carroll.

The reason he leaves a crossed out comment there is to show the sarcasm. He’s obviously screwing the USC program by doing this at the most “convenient” time–during an NCAA investigation that’s about to rock that university.
I do agree with him leaving BEFORE the commits actually signed their LOI…at least they can change their mind and go to a different program without being penalized now.

I see what your saying John, but I gotta agree with pk34. Like he said, there’s never a good time to lose. The opportunity presented itself, (I’m guessing it had presented itself long before last week frankly) but he stuck with the program, coached his team through their bowl game, WON, and now, after the work is finished for this season, he is moving on.
I’m not a USC fan by any stretch, but the reality is there is no way to give a 2 week notice in sports short of saying you are going to retire. Anytime, any person leaves a job, they are leaving work behind, its a fact of the business world. He didn’t abandon his boys this season like some other coaches we’ve seen. I think he handled the situation best he could. It’s never pleasant, somebody is always going to feel disappointed and brushed aside, but HIS players (not recruits coming in), have nothing to feel upset about. He finished the job this year. I think he should be commended on that.

JT, isn’t saying there’s never a good time to leave, the same thing as saying it’s a bad time to leave? why do you guys spend so much effort in trying to be negative? He left, who cares? There are coaching changes all over the place every year, and there was no secret that Carroll wanted to coach in the NFL again. And ultimately, it’s his choice to accept any job he’s offered.
Personally, I’m a Miami Dolphin fan, so I despise this guy historically, but why is everyone hating on him for accepting a good job?
Oh and btw, you’ve mentioned the ‘Reggie Bush Scandal’ about 20 times in the last three days and not once linked those mentions to an actual explanation of what the Reggie Bush scandal is. Considering it happened 4 or 5 years ago, it might be prudent to do so.
