Notre Dame star wide receiver Michael Floyd, who flashed dominant ability as a sophomore despite battling injuries, was cited in Minnesota on January 8 for misdemeanor underage consumption of alcohol. Floyd admitted to police that he had done “a couple shots” earlier in the night and had blood on his hands, feet, and shirt.
A fight allegedly broke out early Friday morning, and Floyd was a part of it. The rising junior apparently was enjoying a “Thirsty Thursday” while visiting friends in his home state.
He may face a fine, court appearance, or diversion based on his past criminal record. It remains to be seen if Floyd will be disciplined by Kelly, who indicated Monday that he’ll take a no-nonsense approach during his first season at the school.
With Golden Tate headed to the NFL, Floyd is Notre Dame’s leading returning receiver. He finished last season with 44 catches for 795 yards and nine touchdowns.
Let it go, he is just a kid. Atleast he was smart enough not to be driving.
Fantastic, dominant player. Smart kid, too. But in a drunken fight with blood on his hands feet and shirt? Kelly cannot run an organization of young men effectively unless he punishes behavior like this somehow. It is either OK or it isn’t… and it isn’t.
