Marshall leaving Marshall for NFL

When Marshall opens the 2010 college football season, they’ll do so without their leading rusher as Darius Marshall has decided to leave school early and make himself available for the NFL draft.

And, based on some of the running back’s past “indiscretions” and “situations“, new head coach Doc Holliday might appreciate the lack of off-the-field drama even as he will miss the on-the-field production.

“We wish Darius the best and hope everything works out for him,” Holliday said in a statement.

Marshall led the Herd with 1,131 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns.  For his career, Marshall rushed for 2,861 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Marshall will join Cal’s Jahvid Best, Georgia Tech’s Jonathan Dwyer, Fresno State’s Ryan Mathews and Southern Cal’s Joe McKnight as eligible underclassmen running backs to leave a year of collegiate eligibility on the table for a run at the NFL.  And just how did we know that?  We clicked HERE, of course.

This kid is a stud. Hopefully his off field issues make him fall into 4th round range and Jags take a chance on him. I know they are all about character but picking this kid in 3rd or 4th round would be worth it. He would be a great 3rd down back and change up to MJD.
