Ok. State hires new offensive coordinator

In 2008, Oklahoma State averaged 40.8 points per game, which was good for 17th in the country.

In 2009, those totals plummeted to 28.4 points per game and 56th in the country.

Of course, the suspension of standout wide receiver Dez Bryant, as well as various injuries to quarterback Zac Robinson and running back Kendall Hunter, did very little to help those totals.  In an effort to help get the Cowboys’ offense back to its explosive self, though, head coach Mike Gundy is making an addition to his staff.

Which means there could also be a subtraction to the staff.

According to the Daily Oklahoman, Gundy — who is his team’s primary play-caller — has hired Houston offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen for the same position on his staff.

In 2009, the Cougars led the nation in in total offense (563 yards per game), passing yards (433 per game) and scoring (42.2 per game).

With that, where does this hiring leave co-offensive coordinator Gunter Brewer?  A school official told the Oklahoman that nobody on the staff had been fired, but the specific responsibilities of the coaches still had yet to be determined.

There’s a rumor making the rounds that Brewer will be leaving Stillwater to join new Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley as the Volunteers’ new coordinator.  However, that has yet to be confirmed by any party involved, and Brewer told the paper Friday that he wasn’t planning on leaving.
