Tim Tebow‘s illustrious career on the collegiate football field is over. The former Florida quarterback’s penchant for carrying a lightning rod off the field isn’t.
According to a report on the Orlando Sentinel‘s website, Tebow will appear in a 30-second commercial that will run during this year’s Super Bowl. And it won’t be for Tostitos or Pepsi or Geico.
Rather, it will be on behalf of the pro-life group Focus on the Family. (Uh-oh, I can hear the keyboards pounding even before I’m finished typing this post.)
From the group’s website announcing the high-profile Super Sunday partnership:
“Tim and Pam share our respect for life and our passion for helping families thrive,” Daly said. “They live what we see every day - that the desire for family closeness is written on the hearts of every generation. Focus on the Family is about nurturing that desire and strengthening families by empowering them with the tools they need to live lives rooted in morals and values.”
As the story goes, Tebow’s parents -- who were on a religious mission to the Philippines in the late 80’s -- were advised by doctors to have an abortion as Tebow’s mother was going through medical issues connected to the pregnancy. She ignored the recommendations, and the baby that was delivered turned out to be one of the greatest football players in the history of the Florida football program.
While it’s not known what the specific message of the ad will be, it’s expected to be that personal story noted above as part of an overall anti-abortion stance.
