Spurrier suspends starter Saunders

(Alliteration!  It’s fun for the whole family!)

In the post just below this one, we noted that backup quarterback Reid McCollum has decided to transfer from South Carolina.

Now comes word that another offseason mini-annoyance has hit the Gamecocks.

According to The State, starting tight end Weslye Saunders has been indefinitely suspended from the program by head coach Steve Spurrier.

No specific was given other than the ever-popular “undisclosed team reasons”.

Saunders was third on the team last season with 32 receptions and fourth with 353 yards.

Wow, suspending a player in the off season. That should mean he’ll be back on the team in the spring.

Not sure what’s worse… me taking the time to post a comment about a suspension that’ll be lifted before the spring game, or the actual suspension itself being reported as a “news story”. Kind of a toss-up at this point. For self-edification purposes, I’ll go with the story even being reported, being worse :)
