Swinney: Steele staying at Clemson

Well that was fun while it lasted.  And, as it turns out, Tennessee will still be in search of defensive coordinator.

After reports emerged earlier today that Kevin Steele was set to join Derek Dooley‘s staff in Knoxville, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has stepped in and quashed the rumored move.

According to the Greenville News, Swinney said that Steele is staying with the Tigers and will remain as their coordinator in 2010.

This news comes on the heels of a report from the same paper earlier this evening that Steele was reconsidering a decision to move to the Volunteers following a meeting with his players Tuesday afternoon.  It’s believed the job was offered to Steele, but the meeting gave the assistant second thoughts.

So, we think, this ends the Steele-to-Vols talk.

Unless it doesn’t.
