It was going to be tough enough for Jeff Quinn, in his first collegiate head-coaching job, to replace the popular Turner Gill at Buffalo.
Now, the Bulls head coach will have to do it without the services of last year’s starting quarterback.
In a, to put it mildly, surprising move, starting quarterback Zach Maynard has decided to leave the football program. The school made the announcement early this afternoon.
“I’m very disappointed in Zach’s decision to leave our program prior to getting to know our coachingstaff,” Quinn said in a statement. “That being said, we are only interested in guys that are passionate about being a Buffalo Bull in our football family. In line with our ‘Next Bull In’ philosophy, we will not let this deter us from our goal of playing for championships.”
No reason was given for the sudden departure, and the school said in the press release that they will have no further comment on the subject.
Last season, in his first year as the starter, the 6-3, 185-pound sophomore completed 218-of-379 passes for 2,694 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
It has been rumored that he will be the next football coach at ECU.
Hopefully he will swipe Deb’s keyboard on the way.
I heard he’s going to be the new Tennessee head coach……
