Special delivery: FedEx Field might host Irish-Terps game

With one college football game already in the bag — Boise State-Virginia Tech in 2010 — the home of the Washington Redskins is looking to lock down another game for the following season.

According to the Washington Post, negotiations are underway to bring the 2011 Notre Dame-Maryland game to FedEx Field.

While the talks are ongoing, no deal has been finalized.

“We look for special opportunities, but we have none right now to announce,” Maryland athletic director Debbie Yow told the Post.

Such a game would continue an ongoing trend for Notre Dame as the Irish will play Navy and Army at the new Meadowlands Stadium and new Yankee Stadium, respectively, in 2010; Army in Orlando in 2011; Navy in Dublin, Ireland, in 2012; and Arizona State and UConn at Cowboys Stadium and Gillette Stadium, respectively, in 2013.

Too bad Weis is gone. I’d have given anything for the visual of a Friedgen-Weis post-game exchange. This would have temporarily opened up the elusive and oft-theorized 4th dimension. Why build multi-billion dollar particle colliders when keeping Chuck on board would have done the job for a fraction of the cost?

Unreal…does ND have to play anyone on their opponent’s actual home field?

Unreal….do any haters use their brain before commenting. Yes, those games would mean we’re not playing those teams at their field. It also means we aren’t playing them at our field. Advantage……nill.

My school (Penn State) is playing Indiana at FedEx this coming season (November 20th) so there will be 2 college games there next year. Although it is an Indiana “home” game I anticipate that most of the crowd will be wearing “Nittany” Blue and White.
