In announcing the completion of his Syracuse coaching staff this afternoon, head coach Doug Marrone named his new offensive coordinator, and it’s a name familiar to fans of the Orange.
Doug Marrone.
After relieving former coordinator Rob Spence of his duties following the 2009 season, Marrone will take over play-calling duties for Syracuse in 2010 according to a press release issued by the school Friday. This will not be Marrone’s first coordinating rodeo; he was coordinator of the New Orleans Saints from 2006 through 2008 before coming to the Orange.
As far as rounding out his coaching staff is concerned, Marrone announced the hiring of Nathaniel Hackett as his quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, and Roger Harriott as running backs coach.
“The hiring of Nathaniel and Roger completes our coaching staff in a terrific manner,” Marrone said in a statement. “They both have a great knowledge of the game and bring a blend of experience and youthfulness to the program. Nathaniel and Roger, and our other new coaches, Rob Moore and Jimmy Brumbaugh, are strong communicators and will relate well to the student-athletes in our program.
“The coaching staff we have is a good mix of experienced veterans and young coaches with strong potential which will aid us well in the continued rejuvenation of the program.”
