Who Dat gonna coach dem Aggies?

(Sorry, I got caught up in Saints-mania for a minute. Won’t happen again.)

In somewhat of a surprising move, Dat Nguyen turned down a two-year contract extension from the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week.

Part of the reason for walking away from a job he’d spent three years at was because the former Texas A&M star spent a lot of his time with the Cowboys sitting at a computer doing what could be described as “busy” work. Nguyen wants to be more hands-on when it comes to coaching, which led to his turning down the extension.

And what could lead him back to the collegiate level.

I want to grow as a coach,” Nguyen told the San Antonio Express News. “I want to be more hands-on, and be more accountable to players.

“I didn’t think I’d have the chance to grow like I had envisioned as a young coach. They offered me an extension. I just didn’t see where staying with the Cowboys was going to help me accomplish what I want to accomplish.”

According to the Bryan/College Station Eagle, the rumors are already swirling that Nguyen could be headed back to the Aggies.

The paper reports that the Aggies do not currently have a coach charged with assisting the linebackers. Nguyen, of course, was a star linebacker for the Aggies back in the late nineties.
