Seantrel: Latin for Scarlet & Gray?

Right about now, I feel like Adam Schefter dipping his NFL toes into the speculation that was the 2009-2010 Div. 1-A coaching pool.

But, what the hell.  You only live once, right?

So, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m far from a recruiting expert…

(Waiting for the resounding “duh’s” to slowly subside.  Still waiting.  How ’bout that weather we’re… OK, now we’re good.)

…In fact, I am to recruiting expertise what Lane Kiffin is to recruiting rulebook compliance (allegedly).  But here goes.

In the last 24 hours, we’ve received two tips here at CFT headquarters regarding just where Seantrel Henderson will be attending school in 2010.

For background, and for those unfamiliar with Mr. Henderson — at 6-8, 300+ pounds, I’ll refer to him as “Mr. Henderson” even as I out-age him by 20+ years, thank you very much — he’s an offensive tackle from the great state of Minnesota who is the No. 2 recruit in the country according to Rivals.com, and No. 1 according to both Scout.com and MaxPreps.

And he’s undecided as to which school he’ll attend, which is apparently a big deal to those whose Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Flag Day is all wrapped up in one 24-hour period in early February.  February 3 this year, they tell me.

Anyway, per these two tipsters — one who I’ve known for quite a long time, the other whose vetting is still underway — Henderson will announce on Wednesday that he will be attending Ohio State in 2010 and beyond.

Henderson has been courted by most of the major programs across the country over the past 18 months, and seems to have whittled his list of potential schools down to about six — Florida, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC.

But, based on what we’ve been told — and it should in no way be written on any type of official biblical tablet carved in stone or anything — Henderson looks to be headed for the Buckeyes.  With the Fighting Irish nipping at the heels in a close second.

Unless he’s not.

Either way, there you have it, I’ve just popped my recruiting cherry.

Now where’s that cigarette.  I need a smoke…

The Ohio State part might be correct, but Notre Dame is not his second choice.

Whats with the Kiffin quips? you think your witty? shows how much you know about NCAA violations…this from Bleacher Report:
“Is this actually a program that is going renegade? Let’s begin with secondary recruiting violations. Most of the articles written about Lane Kiffin reference the fact the his program has already committed SIX secondary recruiting violations, citing it as an example of his rampant rule-breaking. In 2008, the NCAA received 2972 self-reported secondary violations from 331 member schools. Thats is an average of nine secondary violations per school.”
    Tennessee had six.
They were actually well below average, yet their six violations, instead of being cited to show how clean the program is, is usually cited without any other statistics, often insinuating that the number is disturbingly high.
So wise up and quit acting the fool.

Now if Henderson could just learn to read and write.
Seriously, he’s more than halfway through his senior year of high school. How is it possible for a kid to not be able to meet the NCAA minimum academic requirements for initial eligibility?
The crown jewel of some rust belt team’s recruiting class looks like a possible juco guy.

    burntorangehorn,
Maybe when he goes pro, he can challenge Vince Young’s Wonderlic prowess.
    He’ll make eligibility. Non-story.

Did you just call someone out by referencing Bleacher Report? Really? Nice find, John.

    BrownsTown,
I’m sure Seantrel Henderson at least had a properly proctored SAT. That’s more than can be said of the application of VY’s Wonderlic, if you paid any attention.
At any rate, at least Young never had even a hint of trouble passing the SAT, or the ACT for that matter. What’s that say about Henderson’s Wonderlic prospects?
    Nice work, kiddo.
