Allen rolls from Tide, ends up with Cal

Looks like Jeff Tedford pulled a quick one on Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

Five-star recruit Keenan Allen, who had verbally committed to Alabama in November, instead chose the Cal Bears this morning. Rumors had been swirling this week that Allen was also considering Clemson.

In a bizarre twist, Allen’s recruitment may have opened up when Turner Gill left Buffalo. Allen’s half-brother, quarterback Zach Maynard, decided to leave Buffalo and is now entertaining transfer offers. It was reported by the Tuscaloosa News that Allen and Maynard both made recruiting visits to Cal last weekend.

Alabama’s recruiting class will be fine, but Cal is quietly building an impressive group, combining Allen with fellow five-star recruit Chris Martin, and four-star linebackers Cecil Whiteside, David Wilkerson and Nick Forbes to build an impressive defense.
