After suffering season-ending injuries in back-to-back-to-back years, Auburn defensive back Aairon Savage has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, the Mobile Press-Register is reporting.
Savage has not played since the 2007 season, suffering a torn ACL in 2008 and an Achilles injury in 2009.
“We’re very happy for Aairon that he has received a sixth year of eligibility,” head coach Gene Chizik said in a statement. “The last few years have been difficult for him, but Aairon has worked extremely hard and shown a tremendous amount of determination to get to where he is today. We look forward to seeing him in an Auburn uniform this fall.”
Even the last season Savage played was plagued by injuries. A smorgasbord of injuries to his shoulder and ankle knocked the DB out of the final five games of ’07.
Healthy during his freshman season in 2006, Savage started 11 games for the Tigers.
