Gamecocks recruit hit with alcohol charge

On Wednesday, Victor Hampton was a part of South Carolina’s 2010 recruiting class.

On Friday, the four-star recruit found himself as a part of a pair of handcuffs.

According to The State newspaper, the 17-year-old Hampton was arrested for a ho-hum charge of underage drinking.  While it’s not that unusual for a 17-year-old to be imbibing and then getting popped for it, when and where he was popped is a little bit out of the norm.

Per the paper, the four-star defensive back was booked shortly after noon Friday after being arrested at his high school.

Nothing like allegedly getting your morning drink on between study hall and biology, eh?  Hey, in the space/time continuum, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere in the year 2014.

Hampton has somewhat of a spotty past — before you ask, no, he wasn’t recruited by Rich Rodriguez — as he was arrested for disorderly conduct in July of 2008, although that charge was later dropped.

He also attended four schools in four years.  His second-to-last high school stop came to an end following an altercation with a teammate and an argument with his coach.

“Victor Hampton”, remember the name; we’ll be hearing plenty about this kid during his, no doubt, abbreviated college career!
