Ducks’ success allows Kelly to pocket extra $600K

As if a 10-win season and a Rose Bowl appearance weren’t enough in his first year roaming the Oregon sidelines as head coach, Brian CHIP Kelly will also pocket a pretty good sized chunk of change for his troubles.

According to the Eugene Register-Guard, Kelly earned bonuses of just under $600,000 for his Ducks’ performance both on and off the field. The bonuses are a combination of incentives for wins and a BcS appearance, academic achievement, television appearances and season ticket sales.

The 10-win season also puts Kelly in line to add about $1 million to his 2009 base salary.

If the Ducks win 19 regular-season games in any two-year period, Kelly, the paper reports, has the option of renegotiating the deal, accepting an annual guaranteed salary of $2.3 million or walking away from the contract without penalty.

As noted by the Register-Guard, the Ducks have won at least nine games during Kelly’s three seasons in Eugene, so it would seem very likely that the first-year coach will be in line for a significant raise following the 2010 season.
